Newly appointed Ambassador of Czechia holds meetings with Georgian officials

Newly appointed Ambassador of Czech Republic to Georgia, H.E. Petr Mikyska met with the representatives of Georgian Parliament. During the meetings, the sides discussed relations between the states and plans of the cooperation between the two countries.
During Ambassador’s introductory meeting with the Chairperson of the EU Integration Committee Tamar Khulordava, parties discussed links between the countries and future cooperation prospects, as well as EU integration of Georgia, which is fully backed by the Czech Republic.
“We discussed the role of the Parliament, the activities of the Committee, and we also talked about the importance of the experience of the Czech Republic in its EU integration. We also pointed out that, as a result of relations with the EU, the potential of The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (DCFTA), should be fully used,” said Khulordava about the meeting.
She also noted that at the meeting, the sides discussed the deepening of economic relations between the states.
“There are several Czech companies operating in Georgia, but our main goal is to ensure higher economic cooperation and to attract more investments. As the Ambassador underlined, Georgia offers effective legal environment and conditions. He is inspired to ensure active and close cooperation between the countries. We outlined certain directions for our future cooperation,” noted Khulordava.
Sophio Katsarava, the Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee, also held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador.
Katsarava spoke about the foreign policy priorities of Georgia and underlined reforming for EU and NATO integration and the importance of practical support of the partner states in this process. The parties discussed Georgia-Czech bilateral and partnership relations and pointed out the role of Parliamentary diplomacy.
As Katsarava noted, “it was an introductory meeting with the new Ambassador, H.E. Petr Mikyska to discuss all aspects and future agenda of our bilateral relations.”
On June 6, while meeting the newly appointed Ambassador, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Davit Zalkaniani, congratulated H.E. Petr Mikyska on starting his mission and wished him success in future activities.
Petr Mikyska was appointed as the Ambassador of Czech Republic to Georgia a few months ago, before him, Tomáš Pernický held the position for four years, from 2014 to 2018.
The relations between the countries officially started from 1993, Embassy of Czech Republic in Georgia was opened in 2000, while in 2006, Georgian Embassy in the Czech Republic began to function.
Bilateral relations, as well as cooperation within international organizations, between Georgia and the Czech Republic, have been developing dynamically. Up to ten international treaties signed between the two countries form a legal basis for cooperation in the fields of economy, finances, culture, defense and security, education, science, sports, etc.
Georgia and the Czech Republic enjoy close cooperation in the field of education as well. Czech government grants scholarships to Georgian students annually, allowing them to study at their universities.
